We've stopped listing gurdwaras. Running them is what needs work.

gurdwaar.com listed gurdwaras from 2012, and that directory is now discontinued. Many gurdwaras are still managed the old-fashioned way, with paper registers, cash books and group chats. We're building a free system to change that, with a public ledger the sangat can open any time.

Free of cost for every gurdwara. No subscription.

Why we changed direction

For years, people used gurdwaar.com to find a gurdwara. Finding one was never the hardest part. The harder part is the work behind the doors, which still runs on paper and memory in many places.

  1. 2012

    The directory

gurdwaar.com begins listing gurdwaras so the sangat can find them.

  2. Now

    Listing discontinued

The directory is no longer maintained. We're putting our effort into helping committees manage their gurdwaras.

  3. Next

    Early access

A first group of committees tries the tools and tells us what to fix before wider release.

The old way, and what we're building

Committees do this work out of seva, often with whatever tools they have. These are the places we think software can help most.

  • A public ledger

Often today: the accounts sit in a notebook or spreadsheet that only a few people see.

Instead: a page anyone in the sangat can open to see what came in and what went out. No login needed.

  • Donations and receipts

Often today: handwritten receipt books and loose counting slips.

Instead: golak counts and online offerings recorded in one place, with receipts numbered in order that can't be quietly edited.

  • Bookings

Often today: Path and hall dates in a diary or arranged over phone calls.

Instead: Akhand Path, Sehaj Path, Sukhmani Sahib, halls and rooms in one calendar.

  • Langar and stores

Often today: stock tracked from memory and paper lists.

Instead: a record of rations, planning for footfall, and what is bought and what is disposed of.

  • Sewa rosters

Often today: shifts arranged by chasing group chats.

Instead: sewadars sign up for shifts and attendance is kept for you.

  • Committee approvals

Often today: big decisions agreed in a meeting and remembered differently later.

Instead: large spends and asset disposals need a recorded approval from named office-bearers.

These tools are in development. Early access members help decide what ships first.
